What is a Parent Participation Preschool?

A Parent Participation Preschool (PPP) is a school that is part of a larger Council of 39 PPPs in B.C. It is a non-profit society where each member school is run by parents following Council and Provincial Licensing guidelines.

Our preschool depends on the commitment of our parents to support the teacher and be active in the life of the preschool. Once every 3-4 weeks, each family will have a parent ‘on duty’ at the preschool to help our teacher. This offers parents an opportunity to observe their children learning and interacting in a school setting, as well as helping to provide a higher ratio of adults to children compared to most preschools.

How are Parents Involved?

1. Duty Days.  Parents take turns helping out in their child’s class (approx. 1-2 days/month).

2. Parent Jobs.  Each family shares the work of running the school.  Jobs range from President to Art Assistant and require various levels of commitment and time.

3. Parent Education Meetings.  At least one parent from each family attends a monthly parent education session.  BPPP hires professional speakers to inform us about topics relevant to preschool, parenting, etc.  Attendance at these meetings is mandatory and is required for licensing
